Archiving a massive ed2k collection—does high-capacity NVMe make sense for eMule

I've been a "Mulettista" for more years than I care to admit. I still remember the days of fumbling with high ID/low ID settings on old beige towers and hearing the constant "crunch-crunch" of the hard drive as it hashed a new 700MB movie. While most people have moved on to streaming, I've stayed loyal to eMule because of the sheer amount of rare, historical, and niche content you just can't find anywhere else. To me, it's a living library.
However, I'm currently facing a hardware dilemma. My current setup is a dedicated low-power PC with a couple of 4TB mechanical drives that are starting to show their age (and making some concerning clicking sounds). I've decided that for my next "archive" build, I want to go completely silent and as reliable as possible.
I've been looking into enterprise-grade Solid State Drives to replace my spinning rust. I'm specifically eyeing those 7.68TB 2.5-inch NVMe SSD units (the U.2 form factor ones that you can adapt to M.2). On paper, it seems like the ultimate solution—massive capacity in a small, silent footprint with incredible endurance ratings compared to consumer-grade SATA SSDs.
My personal insight from years of data hoarding is that the "hashing" phase is always the biggest bottleneck. I remember once adding a 2TB folder of old archives to my incoming directory and my system basically ground to a halt for a day while eMule calculated the file IDs. It was a nightmare.
The specific point I'm curious about is how the eMule client actually handles the jump from a standard HDD (or even a SATA SSD) to a high-bandwidth NVMe SSD. Since eMule does a lot of random I/O when it's managing hundreds of parts across multiple downloads and uploads, I'm wondering if the massive IOPS of an NVMe drive of this scale actually makes the interface feel snappier, or if the bottleneck will always just be the protocol and my fiber connection anyway.
Does anyone here have experience running a very large shared library (upwards of 5 or 6 terabytes) on a single high-capacity NVMe? I'm trying to figure out if the investment in such a niche, high-spec drive is worth it for a dedicated P2P machine, or if I'm just over-engineering a solution for a program that was designed back when 5400RPM drives were the standard.
